An engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy’s desire to drive positive change has been enhanced after hitting several key sustainability milestones.
Caulmert, which has offices in St Asaph, Bangor, Altrincham, and Kent, is focused on making significant strides to ensure a greener future, it said.
Guided by sustainability champions Celia Pendlebury, Enlli Roberts, Ffrancon Williams, Rupam Ray, and Oighrig Rieder, the company has recently joined the Green Growth Pledge, developed a carbon reduction plan (CRP), and signed the Engineers Declare Climate and Biodiversity Emergency petition.
The Green Growth Pledge helps Welsh businesses take pro-active steps towards improving sustainability and demonstrates their positive impact on the people and places around them. Business Wales advised Caulmert on the Green Growth Pledge and helped develop a CRP as the next stages in working towards net zero.
The Engineers Declare unites all strands of the built environment engineering profession. It is both a public declaration of the planet’s environmental crises and a commitment to take positive action in response to climate breakdown and biodiversity collapse.
Caulmert business development manager Ffrancon, who is also a non-executive director on the company’s board, said:
“As a company we are determined to make sure that sustainability isn’t simply a buzzword.
“We are working together as a team to ensure that we are doing everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment in which we operate.
“These positive changes are just the beginning for Caulmert, which is focused on helping create a brighter future.”
Other actions taken by Caulmert include using the building research establishment environmental assessment methodology (BREEAM) and proactively assisting clients in achieving biodiversity net benefits.
Ffrancon, a former group chief executive of North Wales’ largest housing association Adra, continued:
“It takes those at the top of any business to lead change, and Mike (Caulfield, founder and managing director) and the rest of the board are completely invested.
“This can only empower those that we work with, especially with new developments in England and Wales which require a net gain in biodiversity or habitat.
“As well as striving to educate and guide clients, we are doing several things internally to help inform our 50-strong workforce of how to make even the smallest alteration for the better.
“For example, the company newsletter includes handy hints and tips around sustainability, from what to do to reduce waste and improve recycling rates.”
