Monmouthshire Building Society is holding a dementia support session at its Newport branch to offer help and advice to dementia sufferers and those who care for them.
The drop-in session, which is taking place at the John Frost Square branch on Wednesday September 10th, is open to all and will provide support and information for anyone who wants to chat about dementia.
The dementia session will take place between 10am and 2pm and will be led by Rhian Pitt. Rhian is a Training Officer for Platfform, an organisation which supports people facing mental health challenges and works alongside communities to build stronger connections, a sense of ownership, and improved wellbeing where they live.
Rhian previously held a similar session in the Queen Street, Cardiff branch, where she welcomed visitors who were seeking advice and guidance about dealing with family members suffering from dementia.
The session will deal with the challenges of managing finances while suffering from the illness, as well as the difficulties that those caring from dementia patients encounter.
It is part of a wider initiative from the Society which is seeking to support its vulnerable customers by offering support sessions around subjects like fraud awareness and budgeting.
Kristy Maloney, Monmouthshire Building Society’s Head of Retail, said of the initiative:
“In line with the Society’s commitment to supporting vulnerable customers, our Newport branch is offering a welcoming space where people can come in and learn about the support available to them.
“We recently hosted a similar session in our Cardiff branch, which was really well received, and we are delighted to now bring this event to Newport. Rhian from Platfform will be available to talk with customers, or anyone seeking advice about dementia, and share information on the support services available.
“This event is part of a series of customer-focused sessions, which also include Fraud Awareness with Tarian (regional cyber and economic crime units), insurance guidance with Vita, and Budgeting Buddy support from our branch colleagues.”
There is no need to book in for a session, people can just pop along to the Newport branch at John Frost Square and the team will be on hand to answer any question. The sessions are open to everyone, not just Society members.
Kristy added:
“We want to create a safe space where people who are struggling to understand how to deal with finances for their vulnerable family members can come to a relaxed session and talk to people who can help and support. As a modern mutual, we’re passionate about working for the benefit of our members, colleagues and communities. Monmouthshire Building Society has a team of ambassadors to make sure that the needs of our vulnerable customers are reached and we look forward to more initiatives like this in the future too.”
