New Radio Show to Promote the Welsh Language

A new radio show has been launched to discuss everything to do with the Welsh language and its culture.

‘Cymru United’, which is held by Cered: Menter Iaith Ceredigion and Radio Bronglais, aims to support Welsh learners by introducing items by Welsh and non-Welsh speakers.

The programme is hosted in English by Cered’s Development Officer, Rhodri Francis, but includes Welsh music and an array of interviews in both languages to help people who are not confident in speaking Welsh to familiarise with the language.

Rhodri Francis, said:

“This programme is a brilliant opportunity to show that the Welsh language belongs to everyone – Welsh speakers, non-Welsh speakers, learners, young old – everyone. It’s a language that belongs to the world.”

Broadcasting Manager of Radio Bronglais, Sam Thomas, said:

“It is very exciting to bring the Welsh language to a wider audience which includes non-Welsh speakers. On the show we have Welsh pop and rock music, conversations about Welsh language events and culture. One of Radio Bronglais’s aims is to unite and celebrate the fantastic communities we have in the area and this programme is an opportunity to do that. If anybody has any suggestions or would like to contribute to the programme, please contact us on contact@radiobronglais.cymru

Councillor Catrin M S Davies, Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Culture, added:

“We’re all aware of the power of the mass media and the need for the Welsh language to be prominent on all possible media. It is good to see a new radio programme being created that celebrates and promotes everything to do with the Welsh language and Welshness. If you are new to the Welsh language, have been learning for a while, or are shy in Welsh, go listen to Cymru United to get specific support as well as entertaining conversations and music.”

The programme airs on Radio Bronglais every Thursday at 7pm. Here is the link: https://radiobronglais.cymru/en/podcastfilter/cymru-united/ or tune into 87.8 FM
