Cardiff Crowned Third Best Capital City in Europe

Whilst we are a little biased here in Wales, there is no doubt in our minds that Cardiff is a great capital city; rich in culture, employment opportunities as well as sports facilities and education.

For this reason, we enjoy great exposure on a worldwide scale, just this week being named ‘third best' capital city in Europe, trumping some of the most celebrated cities in the world.

Uncovered by a new European Union survey, Cardiff has climbed up the ranks to enjoy a reputable third place position, working all the way up from sixth place. Joining Stockholm and Copenhagen at number three, The Quality of Life in European Cities Survey focused on a wide range of topics, honing in on various aspects of city living.

These include the following:

• Employment opportunities
• Public transport
• Education
• Health
• Cultural activities
• Sports facilities
• Shopping
• House prices
• Air quality
• Public spaces
• Safety
• Green spaces
• Cleanliness

Leader of the City of Cardiff Council, Cllr Phil Bale, is eager to spread the word of this incredible accolade, explaining that efforts have been made to get Cardiff where it is today.

‘It’s wonderful to see Cardiff rising up the ranks rated side by side with European cities the calibre of Stockholm and Copenhagen. Our Council’s vision is to make Cardiff Europe’s Most Liveable Capital City, so this is really pleasing and something we can all be proud of' he says.

With employment and sports being prevalent themes of the survey, it is understandable why Cardiff has come out on top.

From developments such as Central Square and Capital Quarter, to news that the Principality Stadium will host NFL games in the near future, Cardiff continues to enhance their reputation as one of Europe's most vibrant and upcoming cities.
