The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) has been officially recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT), the UK’s leading professional body for the travel and tourism industry.
The designation takes effect from 1 August 2025 and is valid for three years.
Following a successful application led by Jacqui Jones, Programme Manager for International Travel, Tourism, Events & Festivals Management, UWTSD joins a select group of institutions acknowledged for delivering outstanding standards in travel and tourism education.
The recognition comes after a unanimous approval from the ITT Education and Training Committee, reinforcing UWTSD’s reputation for academic excellence, industry engagement, and commitment to shaping future leaders in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
As part of its new status, UWTSD will:
- Nominate two ITT Student Ambassadors to help promote ITT Future You initiatives across the university.
- Nominate one outstanding student for the annual ITT Student of the Year Award, to be presented at ITT’s Summer Party.
- Continue hosting its highly regarded Future You event at Swansea Arena, which is a major highlight in the ITT calendar.
- Be represented on the ITT Education and Training Committee by Jacqui Jones, further strengthening links between the university and the wider travel and tourism industry.
Jacqui said:
“This designation is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and industry partners. We are honoured to become one of the 10 ITT Centres of excellence for Travel and Tourism and excited to contribute even more to the development of future tourism professionals through this partnership.”
Claire Steiner, Chair of the ITT Education and Training Committee, said:
“We are delighted to welcome UWTSD as our newest ITT Centre of Excellence. Their commitment to student development and industry collaboration makes them a perfect fit for this accolade. We look forward to working closely with the team at Swansea and seeing their continued impact on the sector.”
Gareth Davies, Dean of the University’s Management and Health, said:
“We are delighted by this prestigious recognition, giving due credit to the staff and students for the quality of their work and their contribution to the sector. It reflects the industry-led education opportunities offered by UWTSD, developing opportunity and impact across the region, Wales and internationally.”
