The Usk community turned out in historical fancy dress style on Sunday to celebrate everything great about beautiful Usk. Usk Town Council hosted a free town pageant which was funded by a ‘Celebrate’ Big Lottery grant, to bring the Usk community together. Over 1,000 people came along to support and enjoy the family fun.
Tributes to Usk’s past were paid in a parade featuring local residents and children in fancy dress – from the stone age and Romans, through medieval, Victorian and war time. Usk’s present was all about spending time with friends and family having fun, learning circus skills, being creative in the craft area, listening to varied music, enjoying delicious food and having a good time. The future in Usk will be really exciting for this generation and the next with the opening of the new play park area which was also held on the day.
Mayor of Usk, Cllr Glenn Roderick from Usk Town Council said:
“Today has been such a magical day in Usk, we are proud of our beautiful town and it’s great to see so many local people out enjoying a picnic, taking part and enjoying themselves. The parade was a great way for children to learn about Usk’s past. I would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make today such a wonderful success. The new park is a great new feature for the town which children will love exploring this summer.”
