This summer, a popular Netflix series is shooting in South Wales – and Ffilm Cymru’s Foot in the Door programme has opportunities for local people to be a part of production.

Newport residents with skills in carpentry, admin, hairdressing, make-up, construction and more are invited to apply for a trainee placement which offers three days of free ‘set ready’ training provided by Sgil Cymru, four weeks of work experience on set, bursaries to help with transport, childcare and other costs and pay at least at a living wage. There may be some opportunities to be taken on as a full-time crew member until February 2023.

Faye Hannah, Head of Skills & Training at Ffilm Cymru Wales said:

“We know that creativity sits at the very heart of Newport communities. For the first time, the Foot in the Door partner consortium, led by Ffilm Cymru Wales are delighted to be bringing 300 opportunities in Film and TV to the city and are committed to working with Newport City Council to ensure these opportunities are open to all.”

Foot in the Door is Ffilm Cymru’s award-winning training programme that offers people new opportunities to develop their transferable skills into creative careers. Working with partners across Wales, including housing associations, job centres and local authorities, Foot in the Door provides new-entrant training placements on local film and TV productions, as well as support for accessibility, transport and childcare.

Anyone aged over 18 and living in the Newport area wishing to be a part of this Foot in the Door opportunity is asked to apply via the Ffilm Cymru website.

Video applications and applications in Welsh are also welcomed, visit the Ffilm Cymru website for more information.
