Work on Rhyl’s flagship new restaurant 1891 is nearing completion with the opening just weeks away.
The restaurant, located at the town’s Pavilion Theatre, will open on December 1, offering high-quality food and drink in a stylish environment and will be open to theatre-goers, residents and visitors.
It will form part of the wider regeneration of Rhyl’s waterfront which also includes the construction of a new waterpark next to the town’s Sky Tower.
As well as the work at the restaurant, the Pavilion’s bar areas have been refurbished, a new façade has been added on the main building and a new entrance foyer has been created.
1891 is named after the year the original Pavilion first opened.
Leader of Denbighshire, Councillor Hugh Evans OBE, said:
“I’m delighted to see the progress being made at 1891 and look forward to the opening next month.
“The restaurant will be a real asset to the town. It’s all about providing the best possible food and drink offer through a first class catering facility.
“The redevelopment of the Pavilion Theatre is part of the wider work in Rhyl which will increase footfall in the town and create jobs that will boost the local economy.
“1891 will form a significant part of the waterfront redevelopment. Work is already underway at the waterpark and work is nearing completion at the Premier Inn hotel at the former Honey Club site, while the illuminated Sky Tower offers a great skyline feature for the town.
“It’s great to see these key developments taking shape –for what will be an exciting, major regeneration of the waterfront area and we hope this will be the catalyst for further investment in Rhyl in the future.”
A total of 18 members of staff have been employed at 1891 after a recent recruitment day, with the majority coming from Rhyl.
The Council is also working with a number of local suppliers in the area to provide local produce for 1891.
Over the coming weeks the furniture and kitchen equipment will be installed at 1891 while all staff will be in place by November 20.
