Newport council is hosting a fun, free, family-friendly eco-event at the Riverfront Theatre this October.

Newport EcoFest 2025 will return this autumn with a free, family-friendly event at the Riverfront Theatre on Saturday 4 October, from 10am to 3pm. Sponsored by Caerleon-based company Wizard Eco, the festival will highlight sustainability through practical advice, activities, and entertainment for all ages.

Building on last year’s Saving Energy Event and Net Zero Newport: The Electric Experience, this year’s EcoFest will offer a wide range of information stalls, expert presentations, and one-to-one advice sessions focused on saving energy, reducing costs, and improving well-being.

Visitors can enjoy interactive activities including a library corner, toy play area, arts and crafts, and bug hotel making. The popular carbon capture game, first seen at the Saving Energy Event, will also return. For those interested in electric vehicles, test drives will be available throughout the day.

The programme also features performances by the Children’s Laureate of Wales, Alex Wharton, and Tin Shed Theatre, alongside a junk orchestra, food vendors, and a sustainable shopping corner.

The event will also celebrate the winners of the Eco Art competition, which invited local artists aged 3–16 to create pieces inspired by Newport’s environment.

Councillor Yvonne Forsey, cabinet member for climate change, waste and recycling, said:

“Newport EcoFest is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the work of organisations across Newport and offer fun, exciting activities for the whole family, while caring for our environment. We’re excited about the jam-packed event and look forward to seeing everyone enjoy a fantastic day.”

Wizard Eco, this year’s sponsor, helps households across Wales reduce energy costs through efficiency upgrades, with a government-backed scheme available to cover up to 100 per cent of installation costs.
