Daniel Shone admits he has his work cut out after landing his dream job as sales manager for Bellway Wales – but insists he’s loving every minute.
Born and bred in Cardiff, Daniel has taken on the demanding challenge of looking after a patch which stretches from Swansea over the border into Gloucester.
“I joined Bellway because I wanted to move onwards and upwards – and it’s been the biggest and best move of my career. It’s hard work because there’s always something coming at me but I’m living the dream.”
The 35-year-old, who lives with wife Laura (33) on her family farm in Pontypridd along with their three-year-old daughter Isla, started his career in the housebuilding industry after graduating from Swansea University.
“I went straight into sales and spent 10 good years at Redrow but I was looking for the opportunity to move on and stretch myself even more.
“Moving to a much bigger builder has given me a real challenge and I’ve had to deal with a lot of change. I’m working with new systems and new processes as well as a lot of new people spread over a massive area.
“Bellway is a five star-rated builder and build top-quality houses so it’s a pleasure to work for the company – and I’m proud to be here.”
Daniel, who grew up in the Cardiff suburb of Radyr, said the South Wales and Gloucestershire marketplace was very competitive at present.
“We’re competing well selling homes and are maintaining a steady sales rate but we’ve got to be on our toes all the time.
“Two of us look after 10 sites stretching from Swansea to Gloucester and we have a team of about 20 between us. It’s a fast-moving environment but there’s never a dull moment and I get a great buzz putting the company’s best foot forward.”
Life is going well for Daniel both personally and professionally, as his wife, a teacher, is expecting their second child in March.
“We’re really looking forward to it – even if it means another year without any sleep!”
