An incredible new multi-million pound adventure resort is set to take the UK leisure industry by storm.

Afan Valley Adventure Resort will be the first of its kind to hit the UK market and will be home to a staggering wealth of adrenaline-fuelled indoor and outdoor activities.

Set over 500 acres of forests and rolling hills in Afan Valley, South Wales, the resort is the brainchild of Gavin Woodhouse, chairman of Northern Powerhouse Developments and Peter Moore OBE – the man who first brought Center Parcs to the UK and who helped turn round the fortunes of Alton Towers.

Already signed up as one of the resort’s big attractions is The Bear Grylls Survival Academy which will feature a series of tough challenges and endurance courses designed by the top TV survival expert to test the mental and physical strength of all ages and abilities.

Since launching in 2012, the Academy has become a firm favourite with survival enthusiasts and its arrival at the resort is set to take survival skills and training to new exhilarating heights.

Billed as the ultimate outdoor adventure playground Afan Valley Adventure Resort will be geared towards a new and exciting holiday experience and offer visitors a unique mix of high-octane attractions and relaxation all in one location.

In addition to Bear Grylls Survival Academy experience, the all-weather, all-year-round resort will also be home to three outdoor ski slopes, forest-based zip wires and tree-top adventures, bike trails, an Xtreme sport centre, a state-of-the-art aqua park, indoor trampolining, relaxing spas and a central plaza featuring a wealth of bars and restaurants where guests and visitors can meet and socialise at the end of the day.

Talking about the resort, which will also include a 100-bedroom hotel and 500 luxury lodges, Gavin Woodhouse chairman of Yorkshire-based Northern Powerhouse Developments said:

“The arrival of The Bear Grylls Survival Academy is a huge boost to the resort and will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of what is going to be an incredible visitor experience.

“The UK holiday market is ready for a new leisure concept and we believe Afan Valley Adventure Resort is coming at exactly the right time.

“In recent years we have seen a growing number of independent stand-alone experiences proving hugely popular but there is nowhere that delivers all of these experiences in one destination and Afan Valley will do just that.

“With the invaluable vision and experience of the team behind the Bear Grylls Survival Academy and Peter Moore on board, we are now in a position to deliver something new and very exciting to the UK leisure industry.”

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure for the Welsh Government last night also gave the resort his full backing.

He said:

“This project has significant potential in view of its scale to positively impact the tourism economy within the South Wales region.”
