Cardiff-based James & Jenkins Garages Ltd, a family owned garage and forecourt business, is to invest in its fast-growing Charter Vehicle Hire car and van rental business following a £1.125 million funding package from Santander Corporate & Commercial.

Established in 1981, James & Jenkins is an established fuel service station providing used car sales and retail shopping facilities run by Managing Director Mark James. The business has developed strong links with the local community, supplying vehicles to both Cardiff Blues’ rugby development officers and the Cardiff Devils Ice Hockey team for instance, as well as sponsoring Cardiff Ski Club and a number of other local organisations.

James & Jenkins bought Charter Vehicle Hire in 1991 and the brand, which has benefitted from strong demand from local businesses and consumers, has now become one of South Wales’ largest independent daily rental businesses with 300 cars and vans available for hire. The funding from Santander Corporate & Commercial will see James & Jenkins invest further in the business, particularly in new stock and marketing.

Mark James, Managing Director, James & Jenkins Garages, said:

We have seen a real increase in demand for our hire cars and vans in recent years and believe there is a clear opportunity for us to grow this side of business significantly. We have developed a great relationship with Santander and are confident that with the bank’s support Charter Vehicle Hire will reach new heights of success.”

Myrddyn Hughes, Relationship Director, Santander Corporate & Commercial, said: “James & Jenkins is an excellent example of a local family business which has carved out a strong marketplace for itself among local businesses and other stakeholders. We are delighted to be involved in their expansion in South Wales and believe that Mark and the team will lead the business from strength to strength.”
