People seeking to secure accommodation in a new multi-million pound extra care scheme in Denbigh are being invited to an open day.
Members of the public will have the chance to meet with officers from Grŵp Cynefin housing association to learn more about its Awel y Dyffryn project scheduled to welcome residents later this year.
Awel y Dyffryn will meet the needs of older people who want to live independently in their own homes, but with care and support available 24 hours. Its accommodation will comprise of 42 two-bedroom and 24 one-bedroom apartments.
The open day will be held at Eirianfa Community Centre, Denbigh, on Monday 16 March from 2pm to 6pm.
Grŵp Cynefin and Denbighshire County Council staff will be on hand to explain the specification of apartments, about communal rooms and shared facilities, the services on offer, and also how to apply to be considered for an apartment.
Shan Lloyd Williams, Grŵp Cynefin chief executive, said:
“At Grŵp Cynefin, one of our pledges is to offer our tenants more than just housing.
“This open day provides residents across the community to find out more and see for themselves how Awel y Dyffryn will support the needs of older people locally.
“Applicants can now register their interest in Awel y Dyffryn by contacting our customer services team on 0300 111 2122 or by popping into our Denbigh office for an application form.
“Our officers will be on hand on March 16 to assist further.”
Cllr Bobby Feeley, Denbighshire County Council lead member for Well-being and Independence, said:
“We are delighted to be working in partnership with Grŵp Cynefin on this project which will help older people live independently and make our communities more resilient.
“I would encourage eligible residents to attend the open day to find out more about this scheme and how it could benefit them.”
As part of the £12m extra care development, tenants will be able to access shared facilities including a restaurant, activities room, communal lounges, landscaped gardens and a laundry room.
The new facility, located on the site of the former Middle Lane School is due for completion by the end of 2020.
Extra benefits on offer will include intergenerational events to tackle loneliness and mental health, together with other social and leisure activities.
Preference for tenancies will be given to Denbighshire residents aged 60 and over.
Awel y Dyffryn is Grŵp Cynefin’s fifth extra care scheme, and its second in Denbighshire. Its other, long-established schemes are located in Bala, Holyhead, Ruthin and Porthmadog.
The 66-apartment town centre scheme is a joint project between Grŵp Cynefin and Denbighshire County Council, with financial support from the Welsh Government
The facility is being developed by local contractor, R L Davies, of Colwyn Bay.
