Dragons RFC Owner and Just Eat Founder to Speak at Newport Business Club

The co-founder of online food delivery giant Just Eat is to be the guest speaker at the latest City of Newport Business Club networking event.

David Buttress, now the owner and chairman of Newport-based regional rugby team Dragons RFC, will be the star turn at the event at the Coldra Court Hotel on Thursday, November 16.

David Buttress is a highly successful entrepreneur and businessman, best known for co-founding Just Eat.

Over the course of 12 years, David built and managed Just Eat from a small start-up to a multi-billion pound public company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Under his leadership, the company successfully completed Europe’s largest technology IPO in a decade.

As CEO of Just Eat, David was responsible for leading several major investments and acquisitions. Highlights include acquiring leading technology businesses in Australia (menulog), Spain (la nevera roja), Italy (Pizza Bo), Canada (Skip the Dishes), UK (hungryhouse and Flypay), and LATAM (ifood).

Originally from Cwmbran, David has received numerous accolades for his work, including being named Entrepreneur of the Year at the Investor Allstars Awards in 2014 and being included in the Debrett’s 500 list of Britain’s most influential people in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Glassdoor also named him as one of the UK’s Top 5 CEOs in 2015 and 2016.

In 2017, David became a venture partner at 83North, and he has invested in several companies including Cera, Fiit, Honest Food, Obligo, HungryPanda (board member), Elmenus (board member), Zava (Chairman of the Board), and Karvi (Chairman of the Board). In 2022, David was appointed as the Cost of Living Tsar for the UK Government by No.10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office.

David’s passion is to work with entrepreneurs and management teams, helping, coaching, and mentoring them to achieve their goals. Outside of work, David is passionate about rugby and is the owner and chairman of Dragons RFC.

City of Newport Business Club chairman Professor Jonathan Deacon said:
