City Hospice’s annual Chair’s Lunch is returning to the Parkgate Hotel, Cardiff on 17 October.
The Leaders & Legends event, organised by the charity’s Chair Michael Baker and hosted by ambassador Sian Lloyd, provides the South Wales business community with an opportunity to connect while hearing insights from one of Wales’ most celebrated and influential sporting figures.
The inaugural Leaders & Legends lunch was held in 2024, the charity’s 40th anniversary year, with special guests Nigel Walker OBE and Sam Warburton OBE.
This year Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE will be interviewed by Deborah Thomas, sharing her experiences in sport, public life, and beyond, as well as leadership insights from on and off the track.
Baroness Grey-Thompson is one of Britain’s greatest Paralympic athletes, achieving 16 Paralympic medals over five games and 12 World Championships medals in wheelchair racing. Since retiring from competition, Baroness Grey-Thompson has continued to be involved in sport through advisory, board and consultancy roles in addition to becoming a broadcaster and Life Peer in the House of Lords.
Michael Baker, Chair of City Hospice, said:
“Following the success of last year’s memorable lunch, we had to add this fantastic business event to the calendar once again with another inspirational leader and legend. I am extremely grateful to Baroness Grey-Thompson for being part of what is set to be an exceptional afternoon and hope our guests from the local business community gain valuable insights from her journey.”
Deborah Thomas said:
“I am delighted to be back for the second Leaders & Legends Lunch with City Hospice. Baroness Grey-Thompson has so much to share about leadership in sport and beyond, and I am so excited to interview her during the event.”
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE said:
“Success is about hard work and self-belief and I am excited to be able to share my successes, experiences and insights from my varied careers with Welsh business leaders in support of City Hospice. I hope that businesses take this chance to engage with the charity and support their incredible work in Cardiff.”
This year’s event is sponsored by Brewin Dolphin, Leonard Curtis, Quantum Advisory, Sony and Urban Space. The lunch will support City Hospice, the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care for patients in Cardiff with terminal or life limiting illnesses. The charity provides care and a range of services including welfare advice and complementary therapies for patients, as well as bereavement support and counselling for the families of its patients.
