Careers Wales Receives National Film and Television Award

Careers Wales was presented with the National Educational Organisation Award at the Screen Alliance Wales (SAW) Awards.

The event took place at University of South Wales (USW) in Cardiff last month. It celebrated aspiring TV and film professionals, as well as contributions to the industry by organisations across the country.

Careers Wales was recognised for supporting SAW to provide careers and work-related experiences for pupils helping to raise awareness of the careers and opportunities available in the film and television industry in Wales.

Kayleigh Brummell, a business engagement adviser at Careers Wales, and her colleagues collaborated with Rhys Bebb, the Welsh Language Education and Training Manager at Screen Alliance Wales, to facilitate various career events across Wales over the last half-decade.

One project introduced a challenge for schools in north Wales, spanning Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire. The most exceptional group from each school received an invitation to Wrexham University for a magazine-style interview shoot, granting pupils access to utilize professional-grade equipment and facilities housed at the University.

Kayleigh said:

“I’m delighted to have received this award on behalf of the team at Careers Wales.

“It’s been an honour to work with Rhys to provide impactful experiences to pupils across the country and strengthen the opportunities presented to them.

“If I had to summarise this awards event in one word it would be inspirational and we’re looking forward to continuing our partnership work with SAW to inspire future cohorts of film and television professionals.”

Rhys said:

“Careers Wales have been with Screen Alliance Wales from the very start and have helped us to reach thousands and thousands of young people across the whole of Wales through workshops, careers fairs and studio visits in order to open their eyes to the range of careers within the Film and TV Industry.

“This is something SAW could not have achieved without the help of the dedicated business engagement adviser team at Careers Wales.”

The Screen Alliance Wales Awards 2023 celebrated the five-year milestone of SAW’s impactful journey. The event highlighted initiatives including placements, masterclasses and workshops at Bad Wolf Studio and showcased collaborations with the University of South Wales, Bangor University, Aria Film Studios and Rondo Media.
