Brains has launched Red Dragon, a limited edition beer to celebrate the opening of its new Dragon Brewery in Cardiff Bay. The beer marks the next chapter in Brains’ long story of brewing in the heart of Cardiff.

As Wales’ best-known brewer and pub company, Brains has reinforced its commitment to brewing in the nation’s capital by commissioning the Dragon Brewery on a new site at Pacific Road in Cardiff Bay. This multi-million pound investment is a clear sign of the company’s ambition to continue to offer the very best of Wales to beer drinkers and pub-goers across the nation from its base in the heart of Cardiff.

The Dragon Brewery will produce more than 20 million pints of Brains beer a year across a variety of different beer styles, while meeting the very latest environmental standards. The current Cardiff Brewery site next to the station is due to be transformed into the exciting Central Quay development with initial work having recently begun.

Brains Red Dragon is the first new brew to be produced at the Dragon Brewery, it is a strong ale (5.0% abv) with dark copper hues, a rich fruity aroma and a satisfyingly malty finish.

Commenting on the new beer Brains chairman John Rhys, the great-great grandson of company founder Samuel Arthur Brain said

“I am delighted that we have brewed such a fantastic beer to mark this important moment in the history of the company. Red Dragon is a real testament to the skill of our brewing team and an exciting sign of things to come as we look to develop our beer range into the future. Red Dragon is an iconic name from the history of Brains beers and we are thrilled to have been able to bring it back for such a positive event.”

Brains Red Dragon will be widely available throughout the Brains estate of managed and tenanted pubs during June 2019.
