Aberglasney Gardens has announced an exhibition of original paintings and drawings by William Wilkins, one of the most successful contemporary artists working in Wales today.

The exhibition of recent and earlier works opens to the public on 4 May and it will launch Aberglasney’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

William Wilkins said:

“As the founding Chairman of the Aberglasney Restoration Trust and Project Director of the restoration I am very pleased to be exhibiting as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations at Aberglasney. I am proud that it continues to go from strength to strength and continues to be an inspiration.”

The renowned New York Times critic Hilton Kramer described William Wilkins as ‘an artist of distinction’ and having ‘an eye that is expert in its analysis of light’ and ‘a delicacy of feeling that elevates a very fastidious technique to the level of poetry’.

William Wilkins’ work is included in national collections and regional museums as well as private foundations. This exhibition will include recent paintings not exhibited before, a selection of paintings and drawings from the past five decades, along with rarely seen private loans.

Phillip Ratcliffe, Chairman of Aberglasney Gardens’ Board of Trustees, said:

“It is a fitting tribute to the work of this internationally successful artist and Aberglasney supporter that we are able to host this exhibition as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations.”

The exhibition is part of a series of events planned to celebrate Aberglasney’s 25th anniversary of being open to the public. Further details of all events will be available via Aberglasney’s social media pages, website and e-newsletters.
