Monmouthshire County Council Approves Chepstow Integrated Transport Project Funding

Monmouthshire County Council has approved funding for the Chepstow Integrated Transport Levelling Up Fund (LUF) project.

The project aims to make Chepstow Station more attractive, with space created for buses to come to the station and turn around. Walking and cycling routes from the town to the station will be improved. Amenities at the station, such as public toilets, will be introduced.

The council has allocated £1,407,692 of capital match funding to support the project, which will be drawn over the period from 2025/26 to 2028/29. The council is also committed to exploring alternative funding mechanisms. The overall project value, including the match funding, is £7,467,600.

Cllr Paul Griffiths, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning and Economic Development at Monmouthshire County Council, said:

“The approval of the Chepstow Integrated Transport LUF project is a significant milestone for Chepstow and the surrounding areas. This will encourage more people to use the station, take a bus to the station, walk or cycle to the station. This will be one of the ways in which we will reduce traffic congestion in the town.”
