Sustainable Scale Up

The Sustainable Scale Up Cluster focuses on supporting Welsh food and drink businesses to tackle four key challenges to successful scale up.

They are:

  • Capacity to scale up
  • Access to capital to scale up
  • Access to the right competencies and talent to scale up
  • Having the confidence to scale up and avoiding the overtrading trap

The vision of the cluster is to build a community of ambitious and scaling Welsh food and drink businesses, driving economic growth of the sector and the communities in which these businesses operate. The cluster works with industry, academia, government and other stakeholders.

The cluster aims to help businesses embed business resilience, recovery and scale up skills through collaboration, enabling business leaders to competently assess risk and opportunities, make better decisions and secure capital, increase capacity, improve competencies and gain the confidence to scale up.

Regional Cluster Managers with more than 150 years of combined industry experience work with businesses on their scale up journeys.

Delivered by BIC innovation. the project has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and the Welsh Government.
