Gwent Citadel Snapped Up at Auction for £51,000

A former Gwent chapel and Salvation Army citadel has been snapped up at auction.

The Torfaen property, on Snatchwood Road, in the Abersychan area of Pontypool, is set for a new life after being bought online at Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions for £51,000.

The detached and internally dilapidated building of traditional construction, which had been listed with a guide price of £47,000, was most recently used for the illegal cultivation of cannabis.

Debra Bisley, of Paul Fosh Auctions, said:

“The property offers a large entertainment space with a mezzanine level, utility area and toilets. Subject to the relevant consents the property may make an ideal development for a range of new uses.

“It is located in the town of Abersychan which lies within the boundaries of the historic county of Monmouthshire and the preserved county of Gwent. Abersychan is in the narrow northern section of the Afon Lwyd valley.”

The lot attracted keen interest eventually securing a total of 11 bids from four individual bidders.
