Traveline Cymru Scores Rise in Enquiries During Rugby World Cup
Traveline Cymru has announced a surge in the amount of people accessing its information during the Rugby World Cup 2015.
Compared to the same period last year, the Welsh Government’s public transport information provider received an increase of over 96% of visits to its website during the tournament.
During August, its iPhone App received an increase in new users of over 61% compared to the same month in 2014.
The majority of visitors accessed Traveline Cymru’s timetable information, journey planner services and travel disruption alerts.
Jo Foxall, marketing manager at Traveline Cymru said:
“Sporting events in the Millennium Stadium always bring a great crowd to the city centre. 2,477,805 people attended host stadiums across Wales and England during the World Cup, with others visiting dedicated fan zones and various venues that were also showing matches.
“We advised that people should use public transport to travel to matches in Cardiff, where possible, in a bid to avoid congestion and reduce the stress of finding adequate parking when the area is so busy.
“Road closures and busy lines meant that public transport passengers needed somewhere where they could plan their journeys in advance to ensure the travel is as stress free as possible and we’d like to think that we helped to keep supporters moving.”
Traveline Cymru updated its information as any changes occurred, where possible, providing an up-to-date insight for people making journeys around the stadium.
“It was a busy time for all of our team, the data staff had to deal with large volumes of information and the call centre dealt with an increase in calls of almost 4%. It’s great that we could help keep Wales moving during this time.
“It’s positive to see that people are using public transport during big events and that we can be of assistance to ensure that they get to where they need to be, whether it’s watching the match in the stadium or to their office during rush hour.”
