24 of Redrow’s site managers have received a Pride in the Job Quality Award this year and for Huw Thomas of Bridgend and Craig Thomas from the Rhondda, it is the third consecutive year they been awarded the accolade.

Established by the National House Building Council (NHBC), the Pride in the Job Award celebrates the exceptional contribution site managers make in creating homes of outstanding quality. Pride in the Job, first launched over 40 years ago, is the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry.

Judging for the Awards is rigorous, with the current competition beginning in July 2020 and each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.

The winners of the prestigious industry award are selected from a pool of 16,000 site managers across the UK. Site managers from almost every area in which we are based have been recognised as Quality Award winners.

This is the third consecutive year that Site Manager Huw Thomas has won the Pride in the Job Quality Award. He has been with Redrow since 2010 when he first joined the company as an Assistant Site Manager.

A building studies graduate of the University of South Wales, Huw now manages Redrow’s Cae St Fagans development at Plasdŵr. He said:

“We’ve got a great product and fortunate to have the support of an excellent team of trades-people who always strive to achieve the very best for each other and our customers.

“From laying the foundations through to the final clean before hand-over, we all take huge pride in the job that we do and are proud to be creating thriving new communities and award-winning homes. It’s a hat-trick for me this year and I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Having started his career as a plasterer, site manager Craig Thomas joined Redrow in 2018 after working for a small local house builder. He is now site manager of Redrow’s Mill Meadows development in Sudbrook but previously managed The Maltings in Llantarnam. This is his third Award having also won the seal of excellence two years in a row.

Craig said:

“I love my job and I’m passionate about the quality of every home that we build. I’m very fortunate to have the support of a brilliant team who share my philosophy that we build every home as if it were our own. This Award is testament to the work of the entire team.”

Tim Sexton, Construction Director for Redrow in South Wales commented,

“It’s all about team work at Redrow. Both Craig and Huw have excellent leadership skills and take real pride in delivering high-quality homes for our customers.

“It has been a challenging year for everyone so it’s a testament to the fantastic work and commitment from our team that our site managers have picked up many awards. I am extremely proud of all of them for upholding the high-quality standards that Redrow is renowned for during this time and I wish them the very best of luck for the next round in the autumn.”

Redrow believes that the number of high achievers can be attributed to their commitment to learning and development. Last year, Redrow employees completed 5,925 training days.

Since the start of the pandemic, Redrow has also been working in collaboration with the Institute of Customer Service to share best practice examples of customer care and quality delivery during lockdown with its members. This has included carrying out Hard Hat tours virtually via WhatsApp, FaceTime or Zoom, and adapting home preview tours. Over the past year, Redrow has also consistently been rated as ‘excellent’ on Trustpilot and once again achieved the Five Star Customer Satisfaction award from the Home Builders’ Federation (HBF).

The Quality Award winners will go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national, Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2022.
