Good design makes everything better. That’s why the Design Commission for Wales works collaboratively with local planning authorities, investors, developers and commissioning clients to champion good design for the built environment.

Carole-Anne Davies is Chief Executive. She says:

“Our vision is for a Wales that is simply a better place. Funded by Welsh Government with autonomy as a limited company, we can work with you to promote good design that supports high quality, accessibility, inclusiveness, efficiency and well-being.

“As an expert body, we work with local planning authorities, investors, developers and commissioning clients to capture the value of high quality design; helping you to deliver better outcomes, a better return on investment and greater public good. We frequently act as ‘honest broker’ independent in our stance and able to bring others together, enabling effective collaboration and a strategic approach. We also seek out and nurture the new design talent and skills necessary for growth and innovation.

“From Llandudno to Llanelli , we champion high standards of design and architecture to the public and private sector in Wales by promoting wider understanding of design issues and the importance of good standards in enhancing the built environment across all sectors.

“Indeed, the Placemaking Wales Charter is an important commitment to developing people focussed, active and distinctive places. Long-term, this will help to support the actions necessary to ensure the delivery of more inclusive, socially valuable, connected and vibrant communities throughout Wales.”

With a remit spanning the whole of the built environment in Wales, the Design Commission for Wales is an expert, multi-disciplinary team. Services include:
