Growing Opportunities in Mid Wales

Growing Mid Wales , 31st July 2023

On Monday, 24th of July at the Royal Welsh Show, Growing Mid Wales partners attended a reception to reflect on the progress that has been achieved to date and to look ahead at the next stages of development across all the region’s work.

Among the attendees were businesses across Ceredigion and Powys, senior political representatives and key stakeholders from a range of partner organisations.

The event heard of the progress being made since the Growing Mid Wales partnership was formed back in 2015, which included:

The programmes and projects being supported across different funding streams – from EU funds, UK Government funding and the Mid Wales Growth Deal
Skills requirements and opportunities in Mid Wales

There was a particular focus on the Mid Wales Regional Skills Partnership (RSP), with an update into the region’s skills landscape and the current RSP 3-year Employment and Skills plan explored. Businesses and partners were able to discuss how the Plan can help leverage change in the region and what the future looks like for skills in different sectors. The Plan is available on the Growing Mid Wales website, www.growingmid.wales/midwalesskillspartnership.

Councillor Bryan Davies, Leader of Ceredigion County Council and Councillor James Gibson-Watt, Leader of Powys County Council, jointly said:

“This has been a fantastic opportunity to engage with our partners and the region’s businesses to gain an insight into what they’re currently experiencing around upskilling, training, and recruitment. It is vital that we have these chances to talk and listen to each other to ensure that we have the right priorities in place to drive investment that meets the requirements of both the employers and the workforce.

It has also been fantastic to share with our partners the work that has been underway in the region across a number of funding streams. We are seeing the fruits of a few years’ labour beginning to emerge now. It is imperative we continue to work alongside each other to deliver some real change to our region.”

Ddydd Llun, Gorffennaf y 24ain yn Sioe Frenhinol Cymru, mynychodd partneriaid Tyfu Canolbarth Cymru dderbyniad i ystyried y cynnydd sydd wedi’i gyflawni hyd yma ac i edrych ymlaen at y camau datblygu nesaf ar draws holl waith y rhanbarth.

Clywodd y digwyddiad am y cynnydd sy’n cael ei wneud ers ffurfio partneriaeth Tyfu Canolbarth Cymru yn ôl yn 2015, a oedd yn cynnwys:

Roedd ffocws penodol ar Bartneriaeth Sgiliau Rhanbarthol Canolbarth Cymru, gyda diweddariad i dirwedd sgiliau’r rhanbarth a chynllun Cyflogaeth a Sgiliau 3 blynedd presennol y Bartneriaeth Sgiliau Rhanbarthol yn cael ei archwilio. Roedd busnesau a phartneriaid yn gallu trafod sut y gall y Cynllun helpu i ysgogi newid yn y rhanbarth a sut olwg sydd ar y dyfodol ar gyfer sgiliau mewn gwahanol sectorau. Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Bryan Davies, Arweinydd Cyngor Sir Ceredigion a’r Cynghorydd James Gibson-Watt, Arweinydd Cyngor Sir Powys ar y cyd:

“Mae hwn wedi bod yn gyfle gwych i ymgysylltu â’n partneriaid a busnesau’r rhanbarth i gael cipolwg ar yr hyn y maent yn ei brofi ar hyn o bryd o ran uwchsgilio, hyfforddi a recriwtio. Mae’n hanfodol ein bod yn cael y cyfleoedd hyn i siarad a gwrando ar ein gilydd i sicrhau bod gennym y blaenoriaethau cywir yn eu lle i ysgogi buddsoddiad sy’n bodloni gofynion y cyflogwyr a’r gweithlu.

“Mae hefyd wedi bod yn wych rhannu gyda’n partneriaid y gwaith sydd wedi bod yn mynd rhagddo yn y rhanbarth ar draws nifer o ffrydiau cyllido. Rydyn ni'n gweld ffrwyth ychydig flynyddoedd o lafur yn dechrau dod i'r amlwg nawr. Mae’n hollbwysig ein bod yn parhau i weithio ochr yn ochr â’n gilydd i sicrhau newid gwirioneddol i’n rhanbarth.”
