Two of Pobl Group’s residential care homes have received excellent inspection reports from Care Inspectorate Wales, after unannounced inspections took place during the summer.

Together, Plas Bryn Rhosyn, in Neath and Llys Y Seren in Port Talbot are home to over 100 individuals, supported by over 160 staff members. Both are purpose-built services with carefully designed facilities – which have now been officially recognised by Care Inspectorate Wales, the independent social care regulator in Wales.

Care Inspectorate Wales routinely regulates and inspects care services to ensure specific standards are met. Services are assessed in four different categories: Wellbeing, Leadership & Management, Environment and Care & Support. The inspectors then comment on how the service performs in each category.

Under the category of “Wellbeing”, the inspectors commented, “People have consistently active social lives in Llys y Seren and have built wonderful friendships with others in the service. The service is considered integral in the heart of the local community. Numerous activities take place in the service daily and people can choose how to spend their time.”

Meanwhile, the inspectors remarked,“The environment in Plas Bryn Rhosyn is an excellent example for residential care.” And regarding Llys Y Seren, they said, “As the service is purpose built, the layout has been very cleverly designed. With ample indoor and outdoor secure communal areas, people have choices of where to spend their time. The service is very well maintained.”

James Wadlow, Director of Care and Responsible Individual at Pobl Group is delighted with the inspection results. He said, “To have one service receive such excellent feedback from CIW is joyous but to have two services rated so highly in such a short space of time really is exceptional. I am so proud of the work that our teams across the Group do to ensure the wellbeing of residents.”

This work is reflected in the Plas Bryn Rhosyn report, which states, “People are content and appear very happy in the service and are supported by a team of long-standing dedicated care workers.” Additionally, the Llys Y Seren report observes, “There is a very busy and active feel in the service and people told us they enjoy living in the home.” The words of loved ones are also included, with family members and friends commenting, “They clearly are very happy here” and “I wouldn’t just recommend it to others, I would go there myself”

Quality of care is paramount for James Wadlow. He says,

“These inspection results really do reflect the hard work and dedication that goes in to running a residential care home. We always want to ensure that all residents are treated on an individual basis – we work around their unique needs and importantly; their wishes and choices. Our frontline colleagues are so deserving of mention here – as are the colleagues who work behind the scenes from across Pobl Group.”

Under the Leadership & Management category, both services again excelled. In relation to Plas Bryn Rhosyn, the inspectors commented, “There are excellent arrangements in place for consistently effective oversight of the service through ongoing quality assurance processes.” Meanwhile, relating to Llys Y Seren, the Inspectors remarked, “Feedback about working in the service overall was excellent, with every response saying that they would recommend working in the service”.

CIW inspections at residential care homes are undertaken unannounced, to ensure that inspectors gain a true and accurate picture of life at the service. The next inspections will take place in around 18 months – whilst CIW will inspect Pobl Group’s numerous other Care services on an ongoing basis.
