Swansea accountancy firm, Morgan Hemp, is proving to be on the ball when it comes to supporting grass roots sport.
The company has pitched in as sponsors of Morriston RFC’s Under 14 team, supplying their distinctive monkey-patterned tour jerseys for the squad – and the kit has already become the team’s ‘lucky jersey’ after the Under 14s won the largest youth rugby festival in the UK.
The Morriston team headed to the Tigers Challenge event in Minehead in their new kit at the end of April, joining teams from across the UK for the tournament.
The chartered certified accountants sees its company logo on the squad’s smart new kit and Morgan Hemp director, Martin Hudson, said they were delighted to give their backing to the lads.
“We have been keen supporters of Morriston RFC’s teams for several years and we are very proud of their success – and of the sportsmanlike way they conduct themselves on the pitch.
“We are very happy to show our continued support for grass roots sport. It is great to see the sport continue to thrive here in South West Wales and we wish Morriston RFC every success on the pitch this season.”
The team plays home games at its ground in Cwmrhydyceirw and the Club Chairman, Vince Matthews, said:
“We are grateful to Morgan Hemp for its continued support. Morriston RFU’s youth teams are showing real promise and we hope we can continue to do our sponsors proud during our away matches this season.
“The lads’ recent tournament win saw them beat teams from across the UK, scoring 29 tries and conceding just two, and, the Under 14’s came in for particular praise from their High Wycombe opponents’ head coach for their gracious behaviour both on and off pitch.
“The future of grass roots rugby is safe in the hands of young people like these and we are dedicated to maintaining Morriston RFC long into the future, with the support of sponsors like Morgan Hemp.
The Under 14s team coach, Clive Oliver, said:
“I would like to say thank-you for the support Morgan Hemp has given the team over the past three years. As well as being coach to the Under 14s team I run Rugby Tots sessions in Swansea and Neath and I see day to day how sport can help children of all ages to thrive and grow in confidence.”
Morgan Hemp has a track record for throwing its weight behind youth sport – in recent years they sponsored the Welsh National team at the first European Junior Touch Rugby Championships, and they are currently kit sponsors of youth team Mumbles Rangers FC too.
