One of the world’s leading experts in RFID technology is experiencing strong growth thanks to major contract wins in Europe.

RFIDdirect, which has its head office in Mold, North Wales, partners with companies to provide them with Radio Frequency Identification – in simple terms, a microchip within a tag that can transform the production processes of manufacturers.

The company, founded by Managing Director Frits van Calker, has achieved sustained growth during the last couple of years. It has increased turnover from £500,000 to £700,000 during 2018 and is on track to exceed £1million in the current financial year.

Frits is now urgently seeking additional software engineers and technical sales specialists to join the seven-strong team.

In addition to the Mold HQ, RFIDdirect also has an office in the German town of Kleve giving easy access into Holland, where Frits is originally from and where the company has delivered a number of projects.

The company has recently won key clients in Holland, where it is supplying RFID technology to a major horticultural organisation, and in Slovenia, where it is designing and installing a smart production facility for automotive component manufacturer Kolektor.

Other clients for whom RFIDdirect has delivered projects include Airbus and URENCO. In addition to clients in the UK and Europe, the business has also worked extensively in the United States.

Frits, who is widely recognised as a global expert on RFID technology, said:

“We are growing significantly year-on-year and have put in place a vision for where we would like to take the business over the next five years.

“We are fortunate that the majority of our business comes directly to us because of our reputation in what is an extremely specialised market.

“There are a number of new projects in the pipeline, but my biggest challenge at the moment is finding great engineers and technical sales staff.

“Over the next couple of years, I am anticipating that we will need to at least double the size of our team.

“We offer a number of key benefits including ongoing training and education and the ability to travel as over 90% of our work is currently abroad.”

RFIDdirect was chosen to take part on Business Wales’ Accelerated Growth Programme which aims to support fast growth businesses.
