A Cardiff school will kick off the new rugby season in style after a kit donation from Principality Building Society.

The kit, donated to Cantonian High School by the building society’s Canton branch, will allow older students at the school to get out on the pitch and play, as they previously didn’t have a suitable kit available to them.

Cantonian High School and Principality Building Society have forged links through the Cardiff Commitment programme, which has seen Cantonian High School receive funding for financial education. Students at Cantonian High School have the opportunity to study for a fully funded London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) qualification in Financial Education and Financial Capability, which is the equivalent to a GCSE.

Andrew Gay, Canton Branch Manager for Principality Building Society, said:

“We’re proud to be supporting Cantonian High School in both their wellbeing and financial education activity. As a Society, we are committed to helping our community prosper and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact the kit donation has upon the school, providing more opportunities for the older students and giving them confidence on the pitch. We wish Cantonian the best of luck for this season.”

Jordan McDonnell, WRU Hub Officer for Cantonian High School said:

“On behalf of the pupils and staff at Cantonian High School I would like to thank Principality’s Canton branch for the donation of our new rugby kit. For the past 12 months, there has been a real drive in sport participation within our school, particularly through rugby for boys and girls. Donations like these go a long way and we’d like to thank Principality for its continued support.”

In 2019 Principality Building Society was named as Responsible Business Awards – Volunteering Impact category winners for its long-term support to schools across Wales.
