Welsh Employers Honoured for Support for Armed Forces

Nineteen organisations from across Wales have achieved the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award for 2024.

The prestigious award recognises employers who have actively demonstrated their support for the Armed Forces community through implementing practical policies in the workplace.

The 19 winners will be invited to receive their award at a special ceremony in Cardiff on 17 July.

Under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, employers support defence personnel and encourage others to do the same. The scheme has three levels, – Bronze, Silver and Gold – for organisations that pledge, demonstrate and advocate support for defence and the Armed Forces community.

To achieve Silver, organisations must proactively demonstrate that the Armed Forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruitment policies. They must also actively ensure their workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues for Reservists, Veterans, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and spouses and partners of those serving in the Armed Forces.

Tony Fish, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director for North Wales, said:

“I am delighted that we can announce 19 Silver ERS 2024 award winners for Wales.”

Jane Thomas, Powys County Council’s Director of Corporate Services, said:

“As part of our corporate and strategic equality plan, we have committed to supporting ‘good quality, sustainable employment’ and our backing for the Armed Forces community is a key part of this pledge. Members of this community have a lot to offer the council and other employers in Powys in terms of the skills they have acquired but also the aptitude they have already demonstrated for public service.”
