Experts from Centrica Group, Amazon and Atos are set to share insight into how artificial intelligence and big data are changing the face of business at a new conference from the Welsh Contact Centre Forum.

The first Data Confex: Artificial Intelligence & Big Data (Thursday 28 November 2019, Cardiff City Stadium) has been organised to help businesses understand how artificial intelligence will impact, grow and transform their organisations.  The Confex will focus on how AI and big data can be used as a force for good to better serve all members of the community, including the most vulnerable.

AI is helping organisations automate elements of customer engagement processes, freeing up human resources, improving customer service, and lowering costs.  Big data helps Netflix save $1bn per year on customer retention through delivering content to keep users engaged based on past viewing habits or similar programming.  But organisers claim the benefits of interrogating data can help organisations of all sizes.

Alongside keynotes from big names in the tech world, the Confex will also include ideation sessions, where delegates can work together to uncover solutions  to problems facing their businesses, and an expo showcasing the latest products and services with experts on-hand to explain how they can help organisations large and small.

Speakers include:

  • Belinda Finch, Centrica Group, Chief of Staff and CIO Group Functions
  • Peter Sueref, Data Science Director, Centrica
  • Wayne Phillips, Amazon Web Services UK, Worldwide Public Sector Partner
  • Mark Strefford, Timelaps Robotics, Founder/Technologist
  • John Hall, Atos International, Head of Portfolio UK

Sandra Busby, managing director of Welsh Contact Centre Forum, the organisations behind the Welsh Data Sciences Graduate Programme, said:

“There is an exponential rise in data, an IBM study in 2017 showed 90% of all data had been created in the past two years.  But what good is all that data if leaders don’t understand how to harness its potential?

“Using AI hand-in-hand with big data analysis isn’t just something that can help make companies of all sizes fitter, smarter and more productive, but a way to improve the way the world works for everyone.

“Whether you’re a data scientist, analysts or AI specialist, work in IT or are just curious at how the trends could help your business be more successful in the future, Data Confex is the place to learn from leaders from Wales and beyond how best to apply data science to your day-to-day.”

The open discussions at Data Confex will offer delegates the opportunity to gain a unique understanding of the developing macro trends that are shaping future technologies, unlocking new ways to leverage data and advancing digital storytelling, to allow businesses to become AI driven.

Thanks to insights and case studies from technology leaders at Centrica, ATOS, Amazon Web Services & Timelaps Robotics alongside rising star start-ups, academia and the public sector, the one day event will help businesses of all sizes to overcome industrywide challenges, such as an often inherent resistance to change in the face of innovation.

Peter Sueref Centrica’s UK Director of Data Science said:

“We’ve been using data science across Centrica Group since 2014, to improve the service we provide our customers, improve systems through automation and creating innovation using data. We want to share what we’ve learned by creating a data innovation canvas that any SME, private or public service can put into action quickly. We want to help build a strong network of data savvy companies and colleagues so together we can raise productivity and collaboration using AI and big data.”
