The Welsh Aerospace industry is showing the innovation, expertise and ambition necessary to be at the forefront of delivering a low carbon future, Economy Minister Ken Skates has said.

Speaking during his visit to the Paris Air Show, where Welsh based companies such as Compact Orbital Gears, Denis Ferranti, Faun Trackway, Tritech Group, Qioptiq and Winslow Adaptics are showcasing their latest technology, the Minister was particularly keen to see first-hand how Wales is leading in reducing carbon emissions in the sector.

Economy Minister Ken Skates said:

“Paris Airshow is a world renowned event, with companies from across the globe showcasing the technology which keeps people, goods and economies moving.

“What’s striking about this year’s Airshow is not only the overwhelming sense of needing to look at how the industry can reduce its carbon output over the coming years, but also how advanced the companies based in Wales are in addressing this challenge.

“There are many recent advances that have made aircraft more efficient and the Airbus factory in Broughton is testament to this. Its composite wing technology and the construction of the AMRC Wales catapult centre in support of the Wing Of Tomorrow demonstrate the enormous technological advances being made.

“Further evidence of the move to a sustainable aviation sector comes from Cardiff Airport, where electricity consumption has been cut by by seven per cent in just a year and where carbon emissions have been reduced by 15 per cent.”

Paris Airshow is the largest Aerospace event in the world and the Welsh Government presence will help support companies based in Wales to achieve more export business in a global market and to promote Wales as a world class location for investment.
