Wednesday 10th October – Will AI and Automation create more jobs than they displace?
In the current era, robotics and machine learning are improving productivity and generally efficiencies within many forward thinking businesses. Artificial intelligence (AI) has advanced into finance, transportation, defence, and energy management. Many people believe there is a possibility of a new era that could improve the lives of many people. Yet despite these possible benefits, there is widespread concern that millions of jobs could be displaced by automation. According to the World Economic Forum we have less to fear from robots than some might think. The Swiss think tank predicts that robots will displace 75 million jobs globally by 2022 but create 133 million new ones. Is AI and Automation good for business? Will they create more jobs than they displace? How can Wales remain at the cutting edge of industry while protecting its workforce?
