Welsh yogurt producer Llaeth Y Llan (Village Dairy) has extended its range with the Co-op just months after completing a multi-million pound expansion of its production facility at the North Wales family farm.
The contract win is the largest coup for the Llaeth y Llan brand since the new 2,500 sq. ft. facility was officially launched less than three months ago following Welsh Government support, its opening was marked with the unveiling of a plaque by the Cabinet Secretary for Environment & Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths AM.
Based in Llannefydd, North Wales, the Dairy will now supply the Co-op with 16 of its products from next month after extending its contract with the retailer to include four of its big 450g pots of yogurt – toffee; vanilla; strawberry and natural – and, its children’s strawberry and raspberry multi-pack.
Owain Roberts, managing director of Llaeth Y Llan CYF, said:
“This is great news and comes at a very exciting time in the development of the company. Our new state-of-the-art dairy has allowed us to increase manufacturing capacity, expanding into new markets and introducing new products to our loyal customers, without whom this project wouldn’t have been possible. The expansion also facilitated the introduction of a Llaeth Y Llan-branded multipack of smooth yoghurts ideal for children’s lunchboxes – made with local Welsh milk, it is one of the new range of yogurts to become available in Co-op food stores.”
Simon Dryell, Ranging Manager for the Co-op in Wales, said:
“We are working to double the number of our local suppliers as we know that food provenance really matters to our customers. Quality, trust, value and convenience are key for our consumers, and Llaeth Y Llan illustrates the innovation and product development – alongside traditions, quality and passion – which has resulted in this family firm becoming a great Welsh success story. Wales is world-renowned for the quality of its produce, produce which we are delighted to showcase, celebrate and support its produce by giving it pride of place in our stores.”
