About CAT

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is a non-profit organization located in Mid Wales. It is an education and research facility that provides inspiration, information and training in solutions to the climate and biodiversity emergency. CAT offers a range of educational programs and courses on topics such as renewable energy, organic gardening, and green building.

It also has a number of demonstration projects on site, including various renewable energy installations and sustainable buildings. CAT was founded in the 1970s and is located in the Welsh countryside.

The organisation speaks to government and campaigners about policies that would help create a zero carbon Britain; They train students in all aspects of sustainability; They help schoolchildren to understand the importance of action on climate change; and they give advice to householders on what they can do in their own homes.

CAT’s work happens thanks to a team of experienced staff and volunteers working with a wider community of students, graduates, visitors, members and supporters – all deeply committed to tackling the climate and biodiversity emergency.

At the heart of the organisation is a group Board of Trustees, who bring a broad range of experience to help oversee the organisations overall direction.
