Welsh Transport Firm Targets European Business

Celtic Couriers sets its sights on European Business Following Introduction of New Service

A Burry Port transport firm which has served customers across Swansea and West Wales for more than 25 years has added another string to its bow with the launch of a new service allowing customers to send frequent low volumes into Europe.

Celtic Couriers, based on the Burry Port Industrial Estate, is offering daily and scheduled departures into 24 European countries through Simply European, a new service launched by the Fortec Distribution Network – of which Celtic Couriers is a member – and drawing on Fortec’s parent company Geodis’ well-established European networks.

Specially designed for frequent low-volume pallet loads, Simply European reaches European capitals and economic hubs using a simple tariff with no fuel or hidden surcharges.

Customers are able to track their consignments every step of the way via Fortec’s ForTrack traffic management system.

The Premium European service offers the quickest possible transit times and places freight as priority on the next-daily outbound trunk to Europe. It is available for delivery into 13 countries – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

The more competitive Economy European Service delivers to the same countries as well as into Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland with scheduled departure days.

Gareth Jenkins, Managing Director of Celtic Couriers, which specialises in the movement of perishables, glass and fragile goods, said joining Simply European allowed Celtic Couriers to expand its offering to customers who span the Swansea area, as well as prospective customers.

He said:

“Since the launch of Celtic Couriers in 1989 our company has continued to enjoy steady growth – starting out with just a man and a van in the early days, and today operating with 45 staff, 26 vehicles and 9,000 sq ft of warehouse space.

“Through Fortec, GEODIS and Simply European we now have yet another string to our bow. It means we are able to offer our customers a one-stop shop for all their UK and European shipment needs and we look forward to growing the European side of the business in the future.”

Dave Spong, General Manager Commercial, Fortec, said:

“We are delighted to offer our members this extended service with our long-standing partners who all offer the same high quality standards that people associate with Fortec.

“We can offer an unrivalled service providing access across Europe with our well-established routes as a result of being part of the Geodis group – the fourth largest transport and logistics operator in Europe.

“In addition to enjoying the benefits of cost-efficient palletised distribution, consignments can be tracked online via the Fortec portal and the ForTrack system which provides total transparency and peace of mind.”

Simply European is provided through a combination of GEODIS owned networks and trusted long-term partners across Europe.
