The family run Trefeddian Hotel in the picturesque seaside resort of Aberdyfi won the Best Hotel Award at the inaugural Mid Wales Tourism Awards.

Representatives from the hotel collected the award at a glittering ceremony held at The Hafren, Newtown, which was attended by Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Lord Elis-Thomas. Compere was Welsh tourism personality Jonathan Jones, CBE.

The Trefeddian Hotel goes forward to represent Mid Wales at the National Tourism Awards for Wales in May 2020.

Designed to celebrate and showcase the region’s exceptional tourism industry, the biennial awards were organised and managed by MWT Cymru on behalf of Mid Wales Tourism Forum and supported by Visit Wales, the Welsh Government’s tourism arm. A dedicated Tourism Awards Advisory Group was established specifically to assist with the awards.

Caroline Cave, owner of The Trefeddian Hotel, said:

“I am very proud to have received this award on behalf of all my staff back at The Trefeddian. It’s a team effort and this award is a great acknowledgement of all the hard work put in by the staff to deliver an excellent customer experience.

“The awards are magnificent for the tourism industry in Mid Wales.”

The Trefeddian Hotel has been passed down three generations of the Cave-Browne-Cave family who firmly believe in ‘good old-fashioned hospitality'. Perfectly positioned between the Snowdonia Mountains and the Cambrian Coast, the hotel enjoys panoramic sea views.

Each of its 59 en suite bedrooms is well equipped with modern comforts and the hotel offers a wide range of leisure activities, including an indoor heated swimming pool, tennis court, putting green, indoor and outdoor play areas and beauty salon.

Guests stay on a half board basis which includes a Welsh breakfast and daily changing five-course table d’hote dinner, featuring fresh, local produce wherever possible. Guests are offered 81 different wines from across the globe and local Welsh drinks, including gins and real ales, are served in the bar.

Several loyal staff have between 15 to 40 years’ service to the hotel and some are undertaking apprenticeships and other job-related qualifications, with a focus on providing excellent customer service.

The hotel promotes the local area and region through social media campaigns designed to attract visitors and supports the thematic Visit Wales tourist campaigns. It also plays a key role in the local community by supporting clubs and community groups.

Runners up for the Best Hotel Award were The Hotel Portmeirion and The Dragon Hotel, Montgomery.

Granted an Awards Trust Mark by the Independent Awards Standards Council, the awards were open to all businesses, organisations and individuals who contribute to tourism within Mid Wales.

MWT Cymru is the regional destination marketing and membership organisation for Powys, Ceredigion and Meirionnydd district of Southern Snowdonia. As a not-for-profit social enterprise company, MWT Cymru supports and represents more than 550 tourism businesses and organisations across the region.
