HMT Sancta Maria Turns SANTA Maria, Supporting Refugees with Vital Medical Supplies

HMT Sancta Maria hospital is supplying an abundance of medical supplies to support thousands of civilian refugees in need of medical attention this December.

The donations, which include dressings and other miscellaneous medical consumables for use in treating minor ailments, will be delivered by S.H.A.R.P (Swansea Humanitarian Aid Response Project) who recently launched their Syria Appeal.  Renee Cullen, the driving force behind S.H.A.R.P tells us:

“I set up a Facebook Group in September to help raise awareness and support for Syrian Refugees.  My original plan was to raise £200 and to take a small amount of food and clothing to Calais but within 36 hours, we had almost 2,000 group likes and a large room filled with donations.

“To date we have sent aid to refugee camps in Syria, Greece, Turkey and France – over 15 tonnes of clothing, shoes, tents, blankets toiletries, medical items and over 5 tonnes of food have been donated.

“Our next mission is to take aid and volunteers to a very neglected and overlooked refugee Camp in Dunkirk, France.  We have been donated a small caravan which will be used as a small medical room at the camp and thanks to HMT Sancta Maria, we will have this stocked with a huge range of medical supplies.  The vital donations given by HMT Sancta Maria will be used to treat injuries on site with the intention of preventing major infections.”

“I’ve been following S.H.A.R.P’s work since the plight of the refugees fleeing Syria hit the news earlier this year.  They have organised a huge amount of clothing collections for those in need and I feel it is a truly worthwhile cause for HMT Sancta Maria to support this Christmas.

“We are sending approximately £2,000 worth of stock and I hope the items that we donate will go towards supporting as many innocent people as possible.”
