Swansea University has been ranked 35th in the overall 2020 Complete University League Tables, rising four places from 2019.

The Complete University Guide (CUG) is an independent guide, which analyses 131 universities across the UK, looking at areas such as graduate prospects, student satisfaction, student facilities, and spend per student.

Swansea University remains the top university in Wales for graduate prospects, ranked 13th in the UK with 85.3% of its graduates securing graduate level employment or pursuing further study.

It follows last week’s news that Swansea was crowned University of the Year in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards for the second time in five years.

In separate listings covering 70 subjects, Swansea features in 40 subject tables.

Seven subjects are ranked in the top ten of their respective subject tables, with a further nine featured in the top 20 (two up from 2019).

  • Complementary Medicine 1st
  • Medical Technology 4th
  • Celtic Studies 7th
  • Communication & Media Studies 7th
  • Materials Technology 9th
  • American Studies 10th
  • General Engineering 10th

Meanwhile, German and Communication & Media Studies made a significant improvement, climbing 17 and 16 places respectively from last year’s rankings.

Professor Paul Boyle, VC Elect of Swansea University, said:

“I am very pleased that Swansea has risen once again in the Complete University League Table.

“Following on from winning the Whatuni Student Choice Awards, this is another feather in the cap for the University as we continue to go from strength to strength.

“Our performance is testament to the hard work that goes on across the University to deliver the best possible outcomes for our students.”

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Senior Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Development), said:

“It is wonderful to see once again that Swansea University has climbed the Complete University Guide League Table, moving up nine places in just two years is all due to the exceptional hard work of all our staff.

“This latest ranking is evidence of our improved performance and rapidly-growing reputation of providing top quality teaching, research, student satisfaction and graduate jobs.

“I would like thank all the staff who have worked incredibly hard to make sure that Swansea reinforces itself as one of the best universities in Wales.”

Simon Emmett, CEO of IDP Connect, said:

“These independent and unbiased league tables are used by almost a million applicants and their advisers monthly and are, as importantly, also well respected by the universities themselves for their accuracy and stability.

“The Guide is an essential element of the wide-ranging portfolio of information, advice and guidance available through IDP Connect.

“It complements the thousands of student reviews, chatbot technology and face-to-face counselling in over 30 countries which, altogether, offer the biggest, busiest and unparalleled worldwide resources available on UK higher education institutions and their courses.”
