Swansea Bay Business Club will welcome Dafydd James, former British Lion, as guest speaker at its Thursday 17th October lunch, which goes ahead at Parc Y Scarlets, in Llanelli.

Now a respected rugby pundit, Dafydd will talk about his struggles off the pitch, as much as his triumphs on the pitch, when he addresses the Club.  Having experienced depression and anxiety himself, Dafydd has become an Ambassador for Welsh mental health charity Hafal, campaigning to improve the lives of people across Wales who are affected by mental illness.

Alan Brayley, Acting President of Swansea Bay Business Club, says:

“I am looking forward to welcoming Dafydd to our October networking lunch at Parc Y Scarlets. Dafydd will, no doubt, highlight the important role that employers and workmates have to play in supporting colleagues with mental health issues, and ensuring those with such issues are treated fairly and compassionately.”

“Since his youth, Dafydd has represented his country on every level possible in rugby. He was the first player to score 25 tries in the Heineken Cup European Competition, attaining 48 caps for the Wales Senior team, and becoming a British Lion. Having accomplished so much on the field, Dafydd has since spoken very openly about some of the mental health issues that can affect people within competitive sport – as much as in any other sphere of life.”

Alan adds:

“Dafydd’s talk will undoubtedly reveal some important lessons for the broader business community, that will interest our members.”
