For the first time in many, many years South East Wales was able to enter a team into the England Squash inter counties annual tournament courtesy of support from Towergate Insurance.
Towergate Insurance has a long historical connection through insuring Newport Squash club and the captain of the SE Wales team, Mike Dickens is also the Vice Chairman of the Newport squash club.
Mike assembled a team from various clubs in the region and embarked on taking on some of the strongest county teams in the UK. SE Wales first faced Gloucester and Wiltshire and won through to the final stages of the South West region.
Gwent Number 1 and Welsh Over 35 Champion Alexis Cole.
In the final part of the South West competition SE Wales cam runners up to a very strong Devon team that consisted of 3 England internationals.
The players wish to thank Towergate for their support on this journey and it certainly enabled the players to be noticed by the Welsh over 35 selectors committee as Alexis Cole (pictured winning the Welsh over 35 national title) and Mike Dickens have been selected to play for Wales in the Home Internationals in Aberdeen on the 20th/21st May against England, Scotland and Ireland.
