Cwmbran based law firm Quality Solicitors Rubin Lewis O’Brien has teamed up with charity St David’s Hospice Care to encourage members of the local community to write a Will. The month long scheme will see the solicitors offer discounts on both single and mirror Will writing, with 50% of the remaining fee being donated to St David’s Hospice Care.
If an adult dies without a Will their estate is currently distributed under the Intestacy Rules.
Damian Lines of Rubin Lewis O’Brien explains:
“The Intestacy Rules govern who will receive an inheritance where there is no will – and often, this will not be as expected or wanted by the family and loved ones left behind.”
A 2014 Law Society study found that 73% of 16-54 year olds don’t have a Will compared to 64% of those over the age of 55. These figures highlight the suggestion that often under 60s have not considered the need for a Will. The scheme will run from 14th October till 30 November.
“Making a Will can ensure you look after the people you care most about and allow you to decide who will inherit what assets. The passing of a loved one is a stressful and upsetting time, and with emotions running high families can have disagreements if there is not an authoritative Will in place. I would encourage everyone, regardless of age, to take advantage of this scheme.”
