The Welsh culture shop’s new doors are officially open in Llanelli, with its original shop celebrating 50 years in the centre of Carmarthen. Siop Y Pentan’s owners, Brieg Dafydd and Iago, decided to open their second location following  growing interest from customers based in Llanelli and on their online store.

Siop Y Pentan’s focus is on Welsh heritage; books, craft, cards and gifts. Through this, the shop has found popularity with Welsh families as well as tourists interested in Welsh culture.

The owners welcome learners and anyone interested in Welsh history and culture to get involved in activities, regardless of their skill level with the Welsh language.

Naturally, Siop Y Pentan enjoys collaborating with local Welsh producers, social enterprises, craft specialists and book publishers to bring the best literature for adults and children to the shelves. Whilst looking to boost local Welsh businesses and producers in Llanelli, Siop Y Pentan are also keen to play a part in bringing residents and visitors back to Llanelli’s historic high street.

Siop Y Pentan co-owner Brieg said of the occasion:

“The shop in Llanelli and Carmarthen offers more than gifts, cards and books. It serves as a hub for our community. We would like to see the new shop in Llanelli  offer the same opportunity for the community to come together to explore Welsh literature, craft and culture. Llanelli now has many Welsh language primary schools, and it is important that we play a role in providing quality Welsh language books to help promote the language in the area.

“To celebrate our 50th anniversary we have a series of exclusive offers in Llanelli and Carmarthen. Our ambition is to continue to contribute towards the Cymraeg 2050 campaign and work towards one million Welsh speakers in Wales. The shops offer a place where anyone can enjoy the Welsh language, and to speak and learn at your pace. We look forward to seeing you!”
