Revised dates for Newport’s German-style Christmas Market have been announced.
The market will now run from December 4 to December 23 inclusive.
The event is organised by Newport Now Business Improvement District and delivered by International Street Markets.
The market will feature chalet-style stalls, including a German bar and a variety of Christmas food, drink and gifts, and will be situated in Commercial Street, from Westgate Square to its junction with Hill Street.
The date change is due to unforeseen circumstances, as Newport Now BID manager Kevin Ward explained:
“Unfortunately we received news over the weekend that a company supplying key infrastructure for the event was in financial difficulty.
“This meant we had to source new specialist infrastructure at a time when most suppliers are already committed to other festive markets.
“The result is we have had to make a small reduction to the timescale of the market, but we will still be staging a 20-day event in the crucial few weeks before Christmas that will increase footfall and trade for the city centre.
“As stated previously, our intention is for this to become an annual event for Newport.”
There are still a few opportunities for traders to take part in the market. For more information, contact Keith Malpass of International Street Markets via [email protected]
