Singer Jack Perrett, who became a You Tube summer sensation with his Newport take on Blur’s Parklife, is to play a gig at an iconic menswear store in the city this weekend.
Jack’s Portlife re-write attracted thousands of You Tube views when it was released last month.
On Saturday, he will be playing an acoustic set at Chessmen as the store’s owner stages a takeover weekend.
Owner John Stanaway, who runs Newport-based wholesale electrical distributors IES, will be jumping behind the counter of the clothing store while regular manager Nick Aston is away for a few days.
Chessmen, based at Newport Retail Park, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year and John is keen to keep the celebrations going.
“As Nick is away, I thought I’d stage a bit of a takeover for the weekend and we’ve got loads of friends, family, colleagues and customers coming in to see us,” said John.
“Jack is a great friend of the store and it’s fantastic that he’s coming in to play a few songs.
“We’re open Saturday and Sunday and I’m really looking forward to being behind the counter and welcoming customers old and new.”
Jack Perrett’s acoustic set starts at 11am on Saturday.
Brands stocked by Chessmen include Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green, Farah, Original Penguin, Guide London, Mish Mash and Weekend Offender.
