Plas Maenan Country House Secures £900,000 Investment Supported by Barclays

The Plas Maenan Country House in Llanrwst is looking forward to a bumper festive period after a £900,000 investment supported by Barclays, creating 10 new jobs.

The £900,000 investment has enabled Mark & Amanda Richards to buy out the former business owners and complete the refurbishment and acquisition of this country house situated in the beautiful Conwy Valley.

The 5 star, 9 bedroom hotel is already a well established venue for weddings and private functions but is launching a new restaurant to attract the local clientele. “Restaurant on the Rock” with up to 150 covers, will offer affordable, locally sourced quality dining within beautiful surroundings, open Thurs, Fri, Sat and for Sunday lunch as the new owners aim to create closer links to the local community.

Mark Richards owner of the Plas Maenan said,

“We have run the Manor Hotel in Llandudno for the last 9 years but always had an eye on the Plas Maenan. We want to share this fantastic location with the local community and create a thriving vibrant restaurant, which we estimate, will account for 60% of our turnover. We have a first class chef who has considerable experience of working with top chefs such as Marco Pierre White and a passion for service.”

Alison Monks-Roberts, Barclays Business Manager, said, Barclays research identifies the significant role “entrepreneurs” play in the local economy and is committed to supporting such propositions. By using our knowledge and experience within the local market, Barclays Business has been delighted to support the “Plas Maenan” and wishes the business every success for the future. Mark and Amanda have completed a beautiful refurbishment and invested significantly to create a successful proposition.”

Mark Richards continues

“After the success of the Manor Hotel we needed a new challenge and Plas Maenan has certainly rekindled our passion within the industry. We live on site and have the perfect lifestyle balance, of working hard, but then enjoying down time with the family, within these wonderful surroundings. We tried to buy the Plas

Maenan five years ago but it never happened and it may not have happened again without the fantastic support from Alison at Barclays. At a time when people criticise banks as having gone automated and impersonal I can only describe Alison’s hard work and effort as ‘Old School’ when a real person from a bank genuinely wanted to give real support to a project.
