Specialist partners are being sought by Swansea Council to play a key role in the proposed building of hundreds of new homes across the city.

They will help the council deliver an exciting multi-million pound programme of creating new developments that will increase the city’s supply of affordable housing.

The project would tie in with housing needs identified by the council, would pay close attention to energy-efficiency and would deliver wider benefits to communities.

The properties could include private homes and properties to be rented from the council.

Andrea Lewis, the council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Energy, said:

“The council is working hard to improve the city’s housing stock for an expanding population; our Housing Revenue Account (HRA) development programme will add to that.

“We want high-quality partners to help us deliver homes on around 30 potential developments which will help meet the need across the city.

“The project will form part of our More Homes Strategy which aims to deliver homes that are required in areas they are needed using an affordable funding model. With the HRA programme we’ll explore the possibility of making around 40% of the new homes affordable.

“I’m confident that we’ll receive significant interest from potential partners eager to help us bring this project to fruition for the good of Swansea people in the near future and for future generations.”

The council has published a Prior Information Notice (PIN) on Welsh Government procurement portal Sell2Wales seeking expressions of interest from potential partners to undertake a broad range of functions.

Once all expressions are received the council will consider the best way to proceed. This may include a competitive tender process.

The sites being considered for development over the next eight to 10 years include:

  • Ty Draw Road/Llanerch Road, Bonymaen (55 homes)
  • Penrhos Place, Gendros (60)
  • Monksland, Scurlage (25)
  • Skomer Place/Westdale Road, Portmead (28)
  • Milford Way, Blaenymaes – Site A (40)
  • Milford Way, Blaenymaes – Site B (54)
  • Brokesby Road South, Pentrechwych (40+)
  • Land at Graigola Road, Glais (25)
  • Tanycoed Road, Clydach (20)

Cllr Lewis said:

“Our publication of this PIN will allow us to engage with potential partners to assess interest in bringing forward the property schemes.

“This engagement will inform a decision about how to take forward these wonderful opportunities for Swansea.”

The deadline for expressions of interest is May 6.
