The multi-million pound Oyster Wharf Mumbles officially declared itself open at an event organised by Swansea Bay Futures on Thursday, 9 March.

Over 50 of the region’s leading business people attend the event which saw Cllr Rob Stewart ceremoniously cut a ribbon on the centre which is set to transform the area and bring 120 jobs by this May.

Standing outside the new development, with the backdrop of the sea and Mumbles’ visitors behind him, Cllr Stewart said that the opening marked the start of a new journey. He added:

“We have a world class bay here and this just adds to it – it’s a wonderful addition and asset. I can’t wait to come here for a glass of wine in the summer.”

Also speaking at the opening was the Wharf’s creator, James Morse, Commercial Director of Next Colour who said:

“This was once just a pretty picture so I’d like to thank all the consultants and contractors involved for bringing the project to fruition.”

After the ribbon was cut, members of Swansea Bay Futures, the body formed ten years ago to promote and connect people within the region, were given the opportunity to enjoy a celebratory drink and terrace view at the Croeso Longue – which already has become the best performing of the Longue chain in the UK.

Helen Bowden, Director of Swansea Bay Futures thanked Hodge Bank for providing the refreshments and said:

“We’ve very proud to be associated with Oyster Wharf. The development will truly help change the shape of Mumbles and make it more a tourist destination. As an organisation that is here to improve inward investment and encourage investment into the region, this is exactly what we want to see.”

Since re-launching at the end of 2016, Swansea Bay Futures has secured many new members including: First Cymru DWJ Printing, Jigsaw Creative, innogy Renewables, Copper Bay Creative, Seren Global Media, Next Colour, AB Glass, Penderyn Whiskey, The Marriott Hotel, Gower Power, DWJ Wealth Management, Barry Training Services, Kaymac Ltd, CADNO Communications and The Dragon Hotel.

Helen Bowden added:

“It’s fantastic to see how diverse our membership base is becoming. And where better a place to bring the members together and see them chatting and creating new opportunities. We are planning many more events like this throughout the year so do keep an eye out for details.”
