As shops and town centre businesses reopen, Neath Port Talbot Council is launching its #NPTbuylocal campaign to support and promote local businesses and to encourage and welcome customers back to town centres.

Retailers have worked hard to put measures in place to keep shoppers safe and give them the confidence they need to browse and buy again.

As part of the campaign, the council is producing a series of short social media videos featuring a selection of independent town centre traders.

The first showcases the great range of shops in Pontardawe.

Regular customers will recognise some familiar faces as they explain how they are welcoming customers back and what they have to offer. These include: Emma Doyle of Sweet Williams, handmade gift shop; Melanie Humphries from Village Cards & Gifts and Mike Frost from Frosty‘s Greengrocers and Organic Food Store.

The wider aims of the campaign are to encourage residents to support local traders wherever they can; whether that is visiting town centres as restrictions are being relaxed, or to take advantage of delivery or ‘Click & Collect’ services that some traders now provide.

The council plans to develop the campaign by offering all local retail businesses a free listing on the new dedicated #NPTbuylocal website it’s currently developing: www.nptbuylocal.co.uk

Neath Port Talbot Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Sustainable Development, Councillor Annette Wingrave, said:

“The coronavirus emergency has shown us how strong our communities are and how we can all come together to support each other.

“Local businesses have played a crucial role during lockdown helping to supply food and other essential goods and services to vulnerable people and the community.

“By launching the #NPTbuylocal campaign we want to show our continued support for these businesses by encouraging residents to buy local, for the benefit of our local economy, environment, wellbeing and communities.

“Please get involved and show your support by liking and sharing #NPTbuylocal on social media.”
