S2 Recruitment Business Manager Sian Shepherd returned to the company in the New Year after taking time out to have daughter, Nova.
The 35 year-old re-joined the group – part of award-winning Supertemps – following a period of investment and the launch of a new website aimed at candidates seeking IT, senior management and technical vacancies with salaries £30,000 and above.
The Colwyn Bay and Bangor-based firm has had a flying start to 2018, and Sian says things are set to get even busier as the industry is experiencing a resurgence following a challenging few years.
“It was wonderful to spend time with Nova and my family but I was looking forward to getting back to S2 and seeing the team after so many exciting developments,” said Sian, married to software engineering business owner, Rob.
“I was still in the loop even on maternity leave, and keen to be involved as we continued to grow, but to actually be back and on full throttle means I can fully immerse myself and help take the business forward.”
Those developments included the unveiling of www.s2recruitment.co.uk, an online platform which has already had a positive impact on their burgeoning place in the market, securing new candidates and clients and further improving the relationship with long-standing partners including Blind Veterans UK.
A partnership with the innovative North Wales Tech – a technology and developer community – has also reaped rewards, helping to spread the word about job opportunities in the region while collaborating with and supporting businesses in the sector.
“The executive arm of the business was already steadily growing, but there has been a marked shift upwards since the website was unveiled in the autumn,” said Sian, from Bangor.
“We had certain jobs that were traditionally quite difficult to fill but seem to have turned them around.
“Recruitment itself has also changed; it’s now a candidate-driven market so clients are having to be mindful of that and are changing the way they recruit with new, innovative incentives.
“In this arena things move so quickly but we are right at the forefront and the website has played a major part in that.”
S2 is also focused on securing positions in IT, another sector where skilled workers are in demand.
“It’s harder to find people for permanent IT and executive roles because most have graduated or worked in industry for a number of years, they are not straight out of university or short on experience,” said Sian.
“But we have seen an upsurge in candidates already since the start of the year and exceeded the number of placements we managed last January.
“That’s the way the market is now, but it’s also a sign that businesses – the majority of which we deal with are in North Wales – are growing.
“It’s great for the economy locally, and as many of them have branches across the UK it means we are also making even more of a mark nationwide.”
While Supertemps and S2 are looking to expand and take on new staff in the coming months, Sian says they will never lose that personal touch and continue to be a “one-stop shop” for all of a client or candidate’s recruitment needs.
The business is centred on providing advice and consultancy to employers on creating a motivated and productive workforce, developing the careers of candidates and being at their side during their employment journey.
“Attracting new customers and clients is vital for any company, but looking after the brilliant people we already work with across Wales and beyond is equally important,” added Sian.
“Success is often based on the level of service you offer and word of mouth, and that’s certainly the case in recruitment.
“It’s all about reputation and we know that making a decision on starting or leaving a job is a big decision, so we treat people with respect and dignity – that’s something we will never lose sight of.”
